A water polo pool has specific dimensions and markings used in both professional and recreational play. The pool must be deep enough so players cannot touch the bottom.
📐 Pool Dimensions
Water polo pool size can vary depending on the level:
Men (international):
• length: up to 30 metres
• width: up to 20 metres
Women (international):
• length: up to 25 metres
• width: up to 20 metres
🏊 Depth
• minimum depth: 2 metres
• players must not touch the bottom
This ensures fair play and proper movement.
🥅 Goal Size
• width: 3 metres
• height: 0.9 metres
Goals float at each end of the pool.
📍 Pool Markings
The pool includes important distance markers:
• 2 metre line – close to the goal area
• 5 metre line – used for penalty shots
• halfway line – centre of the pool
