📏 Cricket Pitch Size
← Back to Cricket Hub (Rules, Field Size, Scoring & Equipment)
The cricket pitch is the central area where most of the action takes place. It is a rectangular strip located in the middle of a large oval field.
📐 Pitch Dimensions
The cricket pitch has fixed measurements:
• length: 20.12 metres (22 yards)
• width: 3.05 metres
This length is measured between the two sets of stumps.
🏏 Wickets (Stumps)
At each end of the pitch:
• 3 vertical stumps
• 2 bails placed on top
• positioned 20.12 metres apart
These form the target for the bowler.
📍 Crease Lines
Several important lines are marked on the pitch:
• bowling crease – where the stumps are located
• popping crease – where batters must stay safe from run outs
• return crease – guides the bowler’s delivery position
These lines help define legal play and player positioning.
The Field
• large oval-shaped field surrounding the pitch
• no fixed size, but typically 137–150 metres in diameter
• boundary marks the edge of the playing area
⚡ Why Pitch Size Matters
The pitch size affects:
• bowling speed and bounce
• batting technique
• game strategy
Different pitch conditions (dry, grassy or worn) can also impact gameplay.
