← Back to Netball Hub (Rules, Court Size, Scoring & Equipment)
Netball scoring is simple and consistent. Teams score by shooting the ball through the goal ring from within the shooting circle.
🧮 How Goals Are Scored
A goal is scored when:
• the ball passes completely through the ring
• the shot is taken from inside the shooting circle
• it is taken by an eligible player
Each goal is worth 1 point.
🎯 Who Can Score
Only two positions can score:
• Goal Shooter (GS)
• Goal Attack (GA)
All other players must pass the ball to these players to create scoring opportunities.
📍 Shooting Circle Rule
• players must be inside the shooting circle to score
• shots taken outside the circle do not count
• accurate positioning is important
🔄 Scoring System
• 1 goal = 1 point
• no extra points for distance
• the team with the most goals wins
Example:
• Team A: 45 goals
• Team B: 38 goals
• Result: Team A wins 45–38
⏱️ Match Structure
• games are played in quarters
• teams score throughout each quarter
• total goals determine the winner
🏆 Tie Situations
If the score is tied:
• the match may end in a draw
• or go to extra time (in some competitions)
⚡ Why Scoring Matters

• teamwork and passing
• positioning inside the circle
