📚 Learn Netball

Netball is a team sport where players pass a ball down the court and attempt to score by shooting it through a raised hoop. It is similar to basketball but has unique rules around movement and positioning.


🏁 The Basics of Netball

Netball is played with:

• 7 players per team

• a ball for passing and shooting

• a hoop at each end of the court

Each player has a specific position and can only move within certain areas.


🔄 How the Game Works

• the game starts with a centre pass

• teams pass the ball down the court

• players work together to create scoring chances

• only certain players can shoot


📍 Player Positions

Each team has 7 positions:

• Goal Shooter (GS) – scores goals

• Goal Attack (GA) – assists and shoots

• Wing Attack (WA) – feeds the ball into attack

• Centre (C) – links attack and defence

• Wing Defence (WD) – defends and intercepts

• Goal Defence (GD) – defends near the goal

• Goal Keeper (GK) – protects the goal

Each position has specific areas they are allowed to enter.


Movement Rules

• players cannot run with the ball

• must pass within 3 seconds

must keep one foot planted when holding the ball (pivot)


📏 The Court

• divided into three sections (thirds)

• includes shooting circles at each end

• players are restricted to certain areas

📜 Basic Rules

• no physical contact allowed

• defenders must stay at least 0.9 metres away when marking

• only GS and GA can shoot

• the ball must be passed through thirds

• goals are worth 1 point
