📜 Baseball Rules

Baseball rules are designed to create a structured and strategic game between two teams. One team bats to score runs while the other fields and pitches to get players out.

🏁 Starting the Game

• the game begins with the visiting team batting first

• the home team fields and pitches

• play starts with the pitcher throwing to the batter

⚾ Basic Gameplay Rules

• teams take turns batting and fielding

• each team gets three outs per inning

• an inning has two halves (both teams bat once)

🎯 Pitching and Strikes

• the pitcher throws the ball toward the batter

• if the ball passes through the strike zone = strike

• if the batter misses or does not swing at a strike = strike

Key counts:

• 3 strikes = out

• 4 balls = walk (free base)

🏃 Running the Bases

• after hitting the ball, the batter runs to first base

• must touch bases in order: first → second → third → home

• runners can advance when the ball is in play

❌ Ways to Get Out

Common ways a player can be out:

• strikeout – 3 strikes

• caught – fielder catches the ball before it hits the ground

• force out – runner is forced out at a base

• tag out – runner is tagged with the ball

⚠️ Foul Balls

• balls hit outside the foul lines are foul balls

• count as strikes (except the third strike)

• do not allow runners to advance

🔄 Innings

• games are typically 9 innings

• each inning has a top and bottom half

• teams alternate between batting and fielding

🏆 Winning the Game

• the team with the most runs after 9 innings wins

• if tied, the game goes to extra innings

⚡ Why Rules Matter

Baseball rules ensure:

• fair and structured gameplay

• strategic decision-making

• balanced competition between teams

Understanding the rules helps players improve timing, positioning and game awareness.
