A baseball field is known as a diamond and has a unique layout compared to most sports. It consists of an infield (diamond shape) and a larger outfield area.

📐 Field Dimensions

The baseball field does not have one fixed size, but key measurements are standard:

distance between bases: 27.43 metres (90 feet)

distance from pitcher’s mound to home plate: 18.44 metres (60 ft 6 in)

⚾ The Diamond

The infield is shaped like a square (diamond) with four bases:

• home plate

• first base

• second base

• third base

Players must run around all bases to score a run.

🏟️ Outfield

• large grass area beyond the infield

• no fixed size, varies by stadium

• typically ranges from 90–120 metres from home plate to the fence

📍 Key Areas

The field includes several important areas:

• pitcher’s mound – raised area where the pitcher throws from

• batter’s box – where the batter stands

• foul lines – define fair and foul territory

• bases – safe points for runners

🔄 Foul Territory

• area outside the foul lines

• balls hit here are not in play

• helps define valid hits

⚡ Why Field Size Matters

The size of the baseball field affects:

• hitting distance

• fielding strategies

• scoring opportunities

Understanding the layout helps players improve positioning and game awareness.
