Tennis uses a unique scoring system that is different from most sports. Points build into games, games build into sets and sets determine the match winner.

🧮 Point System

Points in tennis are counted as:

• 0 = love

• 15

• 30

• 40

• game

If a player wins four points and leads by at least two, they win the game.

⚖️ Deuce and Advantage

If both players reach 40–40, this is called deuce.

• the next point = advantage

• if the same player wins again = wins the game

• if the opponent wins = back to deuce

This continues until one player wins by two points.

🎯 Games and Sets

a set is usually played to 6 games

a player must win by 2 games

Examples:

• 6–4 = win

• 7–5 = win

🔁 Tiebreak

If the set reaches 6–6, a tiebreak is played.

• first to 7 points

• must win by 2 points

Example:

• 7–5 = win

• 10–8 = win

🏆 Match Format

Matches are usually:

• best of 3 sets

• or best of 5 sets (professional men’s matches)

The player who wins the required number of sets wins the match.
