📜 Tennis Rules

Tennis rules are designed to keep the game fair, structured and competitive. Players compete by hitting the ball over the net and into the opponent’s court, aiming to win points.

🏁 Starting the Game

• a match begins with a serve

• players decide who serves first

• the server starts behind the baseline

🎾 Serving Rules

To make a legal serve:

• the serve must be hit from behind the baseline

• the ball must land in the correct service box

• the server gets two attempts (first serve and second serve)

If both serves fail, it is a double fault, and the point is lost.

🔄 Rally Rules

During a rally:

• the ball must pass over the net

• it must land within the court boundaries

• players must return the ball before it bounces twice

• only one hit per side is allowed

A rally continues until a point is scored.

⚠️ Faults

A player loses the point if they:

• hit the ball out of bounds

• hit the ball into the net

• allow the ball to bounce twice

• commit a double fault on serve

• touch the net during play

👥 Singles vs Doubles

• Singles uses the narrower court

• Doubles uses the full court including alleys

• in doubles, players work as a team to return shots

🔁 Let Rule

A let is called when:

• the serve touches the net but still lands correctly

• play is interrupted

The point is replayed with no penalty.

🏆 Winning the Game

• players score points (15, 30, 40)

• must win by 2 points

• games combine into sets and matches

⚡ Why Rules Matter

Tennis rules ensure:

• fair competition

• consistent gameplay

• structured scoring

Understanding the rules helps players improve strategy and performance.
