📜 Volleyball Rules

Volleyball rules are designed to keep the game fast, fair and structured. Two teams compete by sending the ball over the net and trying to score points.


🏁 Starting the Game

• a match begins with a serve

• teams decide who serves first

• the server stands behind the baseline


🏐 Serving Rules

• the server must hit the ball over the net

• the serve must land within the opponent’s court

• stepping over the baseline before contact is a fault


🔄 Rally Rules

During a rally:

• each team is allowed up to 3 touches

• players must send the ball over the net

• the ball cannot be caught or held

• rallies continue until a point is scored


👥 Player Rotation

• teams have 6 players on the court

• players rotate clockwise after winning a point on serve

• each position has a role (front row and back row)


⚠️ Faults

A team loses the point if they:

• hit the ball out of bounds

• hit the net during play

• exceed 3 touches

• commit a foot fault on serve

• carry or hold the ball


🚫 Net and Contact Rules

• players must not touch the net during play

• blocking or attacking faults can occur depending on position


🏆 Winning the Game

• games are played to 25 points

• must win by 2 points

• matches are usually best of 5 sets
