Annika Sorenstam was voted the best Swedish female athlete in history, and the fourth overall, in daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter’s list of the 150 leading athletes.
Sorenstam won 72 times on the LPGA circuit, including 10 majors, the last in 2006. She retired in 2008 and now has two young children with her husband, Mike.
“I’m very happy,” Sorenstam, now 44, said in a Swedish publication. “It is a great honor to receive such a distinction. A top Christmas present.”
